Dharamshala Dalhousie Tour Package — questions travellers ask us

What is the cost of a Dharamshala Dalhousie tour package?

Five days starts at ₹31,500 in a sedan and ₹37,500 in an SUV from Delhi, all-inclusive of fuel, driver allowance, night halts, tolls, parking and permits. From Amritsar or Chandigarh the same package is around ₹7,000 less.

How far is Dalhousie from Dharamshala by road?

About 180 km, or five to six hours, via Nurpur and Chamba. It looks short on a map but the Chamba road is winding, so we start after breakfast and keep the afternoon free in Dalhousie.

Is Khajjiar really 'mini Switzerland'?

It's a genuinely beautiful saucer-shaped meadow ringed by deodar at 1,950 m, and the Swiss ambassador did put up a marker in 1992. Go before 10 am — after that the horse rides and food stalls fill the ring road.

Can we add Amritsar and the Golden Temple?

Yes, and it's popular. We start or end at Amritsar airport with a Golden Temple and Wagah border day, adding one night and roughly ₹6,000 to the package.

Is Bir Billing paragliding included?

The drive to the Billing takeoff and the Bir landing site is included; the flight itself is paid directly to a licensed operator, usually ₹2,500–₹3,500. The season runs roughly October–November and March–June.

When does it snow in Dalhousie?

Late December through February, with Dainkund and Khajjiar getting more than Dalhousie town. Roads are usually cleared within a day of snowfall and our winter vehicles carry chains.

Is McLeodganj worth staying in over Dharamshala?

For most people, yes. McLeodganj has the temple, the cafés and the Triund trailhead, and it sits 500 m higher with cooler evenings. Lower Dharamshala is quieter and better if you want space and parking.

Can we do the Triund trek during this package?

Yes — it's a four to five hour climb from Galu Devi, so we build it as a full day and the driver waits at the trailhead. Add a night in McLeodganj if you want to camp at the top.

Which airport should we fly into?

Kangra (Gaggal) airport is 15 km from Dharamshala but has limited flights. Amritsar is the reliable alternative at five hours, and Chandigarh at six. We do pickups from all three.

Is this package good in the monsoon?

Kangra gets heavy monsoon rain in July and August — the Dhauladhar is one of the wettest places in India. It's lush and empty, but landslide delays happen. We'll tell you honestly if a departure date looks risky.
